Caving in Son Doong and Hang En

You're looking for an exceptional adventure? Then head to Phong Nha and embark on an expedition to Son Doong and Hang En, the largest and third-largest caves in the world, respectively. In Hang En you’ll be greeted by a cacophony of chirps from thousands of swifts that nest in the 100 metre-high ceiling. There’s also a sandy beach for camping and a semi-circular natural pool for swimming. Son Doong is nine times longer than Hang En. The cave is punctuated by two enormous ceiling collapses that create unique underground jungles. Despite Son Doong’s superlative status, you’re never in complete darkness because the collapses allow enormous shafts of light to pierce the ceiling.

On this trek you will hike through the original Ho Chi Minh trail to the secluded Tra Ang Valley in the heart of Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. In Tra Ang valley we will guide you to explore Tra Ang cave where you will be swimming in the darkness, enjoy kayaking on Tra Ang river, taste the jungle silence and of course the BBQ lunch in the middle of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. This trek is perfect for those who want to see the popular Phong Nha National Park sights, but also experience something unique and authentic. In this tour we will take you to the famous Paradise Cave, 8 Lady Cave, then for a 20 minute jungle hike to Hang Tra Ang. At Hang Tra Ang you will have freshly cooked BBQ and spring rolls, then swim into the furthest reaches of the cave.

Elephant Cave & Ma Da Valley VND 1,650,000 per person

This trek is perfect for those with little hiking background but want to get a true jungle and cave experience. It begins deep in the jungle of Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park, Vietnam. You’ll take a short hike to the impressive Elephant Cave, then a walk through Ma Da Valley to the amazingly blue waters of Crystal Ma Da Lake. After lunch and swimming, you’ll continue trekking to Tra Ang Cave were everyone will gear up to swim into the furthest reaches of the cave.
Firstly, we will brief you and the team on safety and what to expect. Once we have introduced everyone in the group and prepared the team, we will head off into the Phong Nha Ke-Bang National Park. Once the team reaches the trail-head you will plunge into the jungle and begin the uphill climb into Elephant Cave. Upon completing the most difficult 20 minutes of the trek you will be rewarded with the magnificent sight of 60 meter high, 300 meter long Elephant cave. Our guides will lead you through the cave, take you into the depths, and tell you about the war history of the cave.
After exploring Elephant Cave, the team will hike the jungle trail, cross rivers, and balance across fallen trees. Deep into Ma Da Valley you and the team will go until you reach the heavenly blue waters of Ma Da Crystal Lake. Here you and the team will have the opportunity to take a swim, do some cliff jumping and enjoy a delicious Jungle BBQ prepared by your porter (vegan options also available). With full bellies and feeling refreshed you and the team will gear up and continue on the jungle hike. A few kilometer down the trail and a couple river crossings later the team will come upon a large bend in the river and a staging area for the swim into Tra Ang Cave. After a short scramble up some limestone rocks you will reach the cool waters of Tra Ang Cave and begin the 600m swim into the furthest depths of the cave.

Our guides were very customer oriented, except Johnny in Saigon, who really was so self interested and not focused on giving us the best tour. The last hotel was very poor compared to others and left us with a bad taste. Especially with Anantara only a few doors away. In addition, we asked for boutique hotels like Anantara and were put in a large corporate hotel in Saigon. The fact that the tour arranger did not pick up that we had no flights from Siem Reap to Hanoi was very disturbing and created much upset on the trip. We only did very touristy things. We were hoping, as with other tours, you would offer opportunities off the beaten track that were more original and different, this was disappointing.

We are 2 women of certain age and are seasoned travelers but do not understand Vietnamese language so, we thought it would be good idea to engage local travel agent. And glad we did!! We started Hanoi, and visited Haron Bay, Hue, Danang, Hoi An and finally Ho Chi Min in total of 2 weeks. Daisy of AnbinhTravel helped us to shape our itinerary and booked all our hotels, local tours, and arranged all the logistics. She understood and responded to our requests and questions very quickly. All the hotels were safe, clean, good service, convenient location, with good daily breakfast. And within our budget that we indicated to her. Our guides in each locations are all nice, knowledgeable, eager to show us around. They came to pick us up at the hotel with fairly new, clean car with water bottles everyday. They were right on time. Traffic in Vietnam is as such, we were glad we had a comfortable car with reliable driver everywhere we go!

We enjoyed the entire trip. The guide in Hanoi was satisfactory. The guide in Hue and the rest of Vietnam Suooang was terrific. She went out of her way. We loved her. The guide Chia in Bangkok was also superior. He also went out of his way to add to our trip. The guide in Siem Repp was not terrific. I wore a sleeveless dress in the morning. We went back to the hotel after lunch before Angkor Wat. Of course they didn't want to let me go up to the top. He should have told me to change. He knew they wouldn't let me up.
